Knee surgery
(an un-fun limiting factor for Action Ericka)
I had knee
surgery right in April 2002. I had a lateral release (to move my
kneecap over to the right location), they fixed my torn meniscus, and
cleaned up the cartilage in my kneecap.
Yeah - it was fun. Riiight.

Swimming:
Swimming
was an integral step in beginning to get into shape. I was at the pool
several times a week, doing lap swim. Over time I have been able to do
higher impact exercises at the gym, but I have not abandoned my beloved
swim!

Hiking:
This is
something that is fairly new to me. Because of my knee surgery
and the
problems that preceded it, hiking is something that's never been, well,
very
comfortable to me. However, it's something that strongly -interests-
me,
so I have been doing it more and more! Living in Boulder leaves me very
lil
excuse not to take advantage!

Tubing/Rafting:
I don't
get the opportunity to do this much, but here's a dramatic example of
tubing on Lake George, NY. Yes, I'm the little dot making the wake.
Below is a group of my coworkers from Sun getting ready to raft!

Snowboarding/Skiing
Another
thing I've wanted to do, especially living in Colorado!
The first picture proves I've skied before,
but of course I'm about 10 in the picture, and you can just see the
fear in my
eyes. My aunt's pool is in the background (covered in snow) and I bet I
was thinking "Darn, I'd much rather be swimming"
And this
winter, I did it! I took a snowboarding lesson at Whiteface Mountain in
Lake Placid, NY while on my Christmas vacation. Suffice to say, I spent
4 hours in the emergency room afterwards... But actually - it was my
little brother who got hurt, not me! If you want to see a picture of
his dislocated/broken pinky, feel free.
I had lots of
fun, but was EXHAUSTED after an hour and half lesson. I'm going to go
back
and try it again next year. With a little less weight, I know the
hardest
part (getting up) will be much easier!

Fly Fishin'
Ok, so
I've only done this on a single trip. This summer's camping trip to
Rocky
Mountain National Park with my aunt Linda and my bro Alex. I do have a
crazy photo for ya on the topic tho! I swear I did NOT approach these
moose!
They came running up behind me to the river where I was standing. It
scared
the HELL out of me. They munched on a bush and then crossed the river.
My
heart was pounding like crazy!

Shooting
(Skeet/Clays/Targets)
Now, I
haven't shot any type of gun except for paintball (which REALLY hurts,
by the way) since I around 12 years old. So, Linda & Bob took me
shooting when I
went to visit them after New Years. There's something about hitting
those
clays with something that seems more like intuition than skill that I
really
enjoy. The giant, painful bruise on my shoulder, I don't enjoy as much.
*GRIN*
So the picture below is of me gloating over the bullseye that I shot a
rifle at 110 yards.

Ericka,
